Today I took a quiet moment to notice the sounds around me. A familiar voice, a passing breeze, and a little music can make an ordinary day feel different.

Microphone input is analyzed in memory; audio is never recorded or uploaded by this plugin. Stopping, hiding or leaving the page releases the microphone. Reference tones temporarily pause analysis.

Pitch estimates can be affected by breathy or irregular sounds, harmonics and microphone processing. This is a single-note tool, not a medical or professional voice assessment.

A4 defaults to 440 Hz. One octave doubles frequency; one semitone is 1/12 of an octave. The detector uses the McLeod pitch method with clarity and stable-note filtering.

Measure the fundamental frequencies detected during a short speaking passage or comfortable held note. The Voice Hz Test reports a sample’s median, mean, typical range and variation. It helps answer how your pitch behaved under that task, rather than assigning one permanent hertz value to your voice.

Take a natural speaking sample

  1. Select Speaking voice.
  2. Choose the intended microphone and check the input settings.
  3. Start the test and approve browser access.
  4. Read naturally during the approximately fifteen-second window.
  5. Review the summary and the trace together.

At least two detected voiced seconds are required. Pauses, unvoiced consonants and uncertain frames do not become pitch data merely because the microphone is running.

Use your ordinary delivery if natural speaking pitch is the question. Deliberately performing a lower or higher voice gives a result for that performance instead.

Understand hertz and fundamental frequency

Hertz means cycles per second. An estimate near 160 Hz describes a repeating rate in the analyzed signal. It is not a loudness reading or a complete description of resonance.

Voices contain harmonics and other spectral detail. The detected fundamental supplies the pitch statistics, while those additional components contribute to the sound you hear.

Frequency changes by ratio. A change from 160 to 320 Hz is one octave. A fixed difference in hertz represents different musical distances at different starting frequencies.

Compare median and mean

The median is the middle retained frequency when the readings are ordered. The mean is their arithmetic average. They answer related but different summary questions.

For a small illustrative list of 100, 110, 120, 130 and 240 Hz, the median is 120 Hz and the mean is 140 Hz. The high reading pulls the average more than the median.

This is an arithmetic example, not a complete measured test. In real speech, a high reading could be valid intonation or a tracking error. A difference between mean and median does not identify the cause on its own.

Typical rangeTenth-to-ninetieth-percentile frequencies

The typical range excludes the outer portions of the detected distribution. It is not simply the single lowest and highest frame, and it is not your complete singing range.

Variation also is not an error score. Speech uses pitch movement for phrasing and emphasis. A wider speech distribution does not automatically mean worse control.

Use held-note mode for a controlled sound

Hold a note changes the task to one sustained comfortable pitch. Its distribution can describe drift or vibrato, but it does not compare the sound with a chosen melody target.

A steady sound at the wrong intended note can still have a narrow distribution. The Pitch Accuracy Test is the explicit-target workflow.

Keep speech and held-note records separate. Comparing their variation as though the task stayed unchanged can produce an unsupported conclusion.

Check detection before interpreting a result

Speaking mode searches approximately 60–1,000 Hz and held-note mode approximately 50–2,000 Hz. Quiet, irregular or competing sounds inside those limits can still be untracked.

Reduce nearby voices and music. Check microphone selection and permission. Room-noise calibration adjusts the gate, not an absolute acoustic measurement.

A strong harmonic can create an octave jump. Repeat an unexpected result and inspect the trace rather than treating every extreme as a stable property.

Choose the next question carefully

The Deep Voice Test adds a lowest-stable-note perspective for pitch-focused depth questions. It does not turn low frequency into attractiveness, identity or health.

Use the Vocal Range Test for comfortable singing endpoints. Use AI Voice Analysis for additional local spectral and digital-level features, with its disclosed limitations.

No single median establishes a professional singing category. Speaking frequency and voice type are different kinds of information.

Save a repeatable sample record

Copy the summary or download CSV and retain the task, passage, microphone distance and settings. A later difference is easier to interpret when those conditions match.

The tool analyzes locally without recording or uploading microphone audio. It has no permanent result history. Stop input and export useful measurements before resetting.

Frequently asked questions

How many hertz is my voice?

A sample has a distribution. Its median is a useful summary under a chosen task, not a permanent number for a person.

Is there one ideal Hz value?

This tool does not define one. Pitch alone does not establish voice quality or a desirable identity.

Does it measure every sound in my words?

No. Unvoiced sounds and uncertain frames do not supply reliable fundamental-frequency estimates.

Can I upload a recording here?

This page uses a live timed sample. The separate AI Voice Analysis page has a supported local-file measurement workflow.

Why did the reading change on another attempt?

The task, delivery, microphone, environment or tracking can differ. Compare conditions before interpreting the change as permanent.
